Job Details:

Under general supervision, performs a variety of diagnostic radiology procedures including complex examinations such as GI Radiology, Trauma, Arthrography, Pain Management, Portables, and Operation Room work.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Technical Performance: Produces high quality exams; uses initiative and skill with difficult patients/exams; includes all required views.
  • Safety, Precaution, and Radiation Policies: Adheres to and applies hospital and OSHA safety and precaution procedures; follows ALARA radiology safety procedures.
  • Equipment Operation and Maintenance: Working knowledge of all equipment; maintains cleanliness, troubleshoots minor problems; reports all problems to appropriate personnel.
  • Record Keeping and Patient Information: Performs all record keeping and billing information with a high degree of accuracy; insures proper I.D. and appropriate lead markers on films.
  • Job Development: Seeks ways to use current and new technologies to improve image qualities.
  • PACS/CR: The technologist demonstrates working knowledge of digital imaging techniques including PACS workflow. Appropriate processing, networking, and verification steps are completed on all exams. The supervisor is notified of digital imaging errors as well as logged and reported consistently.

Job Qualifications:

JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Level of knowledge generally obtained through a two-year program in Radiologic Technology and with successful completion of registration in the same.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to emergency patient conditions.
  • Abilityto use sterile technique to prevent contamination when appropriate.
  • Ability to acquire and effectively utilize knowledge of a wide variety of radiographic procedures.
  • CPR Certification (Healthcare Provider).
  • BLS certification is required

WORKING CONDITION:

  • Hazards of radiation exposure, on-going and accumulative especially in fluoroscopy and portable exams.
  • Frequent exposure to blood, fecal waste and other body waste with possible risk of infection.
  • Works in semi-dark areas.
  • Stands and walks most of the day with frequent lifting and pushing of light to heavy patients and equipment, working in reaching and strained position part of the day and necessity of constant carrying of x-ray detectors with lead aprons worn during many procedures.
  • Constant contact with patients and all personnel involved in patient exam and operation of Department.

LICENSES:

  • Must have current up to date licenses with the ARRT (new Graduates of an approved program have one year to pass the ARRT exam) as well as Massachusetts Department of Public Health Radiation Control Program License
