The Associate Engineer is part of Cambridge Technology Engineering Leadership Rotational Program, in this role you will be working in various areas of our manufacturing site, including production of sophisticated scan heads, state-of-the-art clean room operations, polygonal scanners, high-complexity assembly, process optimization, and quality assurance. The program's first year involves working on the production team, rotating through learning, and getting familiarized with the different assembly lines and Quality Assurance & Controls.

The second year, the candidate puts their manufacturing and assembly knowledge to use by collaborating & leading engineering changes, participating in process improvement through Kaizen, and project management to improve Cambridge Technology products and processes.

Primary Responsibilities

Initial Learnings (1-2 years):

  • Mechanical Assembly
  • Optics Assembly and pre-alignment
  • Electronic Assy
  • Final Testing
  • Quality Control

Advancing Learnings:

  • Manufacturing process documentation
  • Problem solving
  • Continuous improvement best practices
  • Conducts experimental tests and computer simulations
  • Collects and documents accurate and conclusive test data
  • Analyze technical data and draw conclusions from the analysis
  • Generate clear and concise reports for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Work as part of a team (both R&D and cross-functional)
  • Collaborate with other departments (Production, Sourcing, Applications Engineering etc.) to resolve technical issues
  • Work on assigned tasks without detailed supervision (levels II and III)
  • Design and assembles experimental models and prototypes involving electro-mechanical, laser, vacuum and other equipment and facilities
  • Maintains high standards of workmanship and workplace safety
  • Ability to conduct tests and experiments involving lasers
  • Familiarity with scientific computing related to lasers and optics
  • Experience with laser test & alignment equipment, and metrology methods

Required Experience, Education, Skills, and Competencies

  • BA/BS/MS Degree in Physics, Mechanical/Chemical/Electrical/ Engineering, or Chemistry
  • Good communication skills and enthusiasm to learn (curiosity)
  • Demonstrated leadership
  • Strong self-motivation
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Ability to stay focused in a high-pressure environment, can do attitude
  • Experience with hand tools
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
