This Spanish Medical Interpreter II will be responsible for:
  • Medical Interpreting for patients and families with limited or no English language proficiency in their interactions with care providers and other hospital personnel.
  • Translating complex and/or sensitive medical and personal information, including diagnostic and surgical procedures, treatment plans, medical histories and medical, social and psychological assessments.
  • Identifying, assessing and facilitating understanding of cultural differences impacting communication.
  • Preparing written translations of individual patient instructions, such as discharge instructions and treatment plans.
  • Translating other hospital literature for patients as schedule permits.
  • Providing education and training to hospital staff on subjects such as working effectively with an interpreter and crosscultural communication. Assisting in development and preparation of training materials.
  • Maintaining computerized records of daily activities, including diary of daily patient transactions.

To qualify, you must have:

  • Completion of 40+ hour Spanish Medical Interpreter training course is required.
  • National certification (from the Certification Commission for Health Care Interpreters-CCHI or the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters-NBCMI) is preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of medical interpreting experience is required.
  • High school or GED level of education is required.
  • Communication skills in order to effectively deal with conflicting views or issues and mediate fair solutions, or welldeveloped writing skills.
  • Written and verbal fluency in both English and language of specific populations served.
