The Assistant Chief is responsible for the following:
  • Oversees daily operations of imaging area, including prioritizing and scheduling patients to achieve efficient, effective and safe patient flow.
  • Supervises technical staff, assistants and students, and monitors the quality of procedures; manages a significant aspect of the imaging area.
  • Maintains inventory of medical supplies.
  • Monitors and maintains equipment operation, reporting malfunctions to vendor or Radiology engineering as appropriate, coordinating scheduled preventive maintenance.
  • Researches and recommends equipment purchases.
  • Monitors and maintains compliance with guidelines for radiation safety, quality control and Joint Commission/National Patient Safety Goals.
  • Participates in development and implementation of new technical protocols.
  • Performs duties of a technologist.
  • Interacts and communicates both inter and intra departmentally to ensure patient exams are performed in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Communicates with patients and their families regarding their individual procedures.
  • Collaborates with the Modality Operations Manager on writing and delivering performance evaluations, coaching and development of staff.
  • Sets and maintains high work standards.
  • Delegates authority, responsibility and works appropriately among subordinates or subordinate work units.

The Assistant Chief must have the following:

  • RT License
  • Associates degree; allied health
  • 4 years of experience
