Job Description

Methods Development Lab:

The combination of molecular and computational advances over the past decade has substantially augmented our ability to create transformative methods. While this accelerated pace of methods development offers great promise, the rapid expansion of novel techniques gives rise to new challenges in effective adoption and implementation. To capitalize on these exciting advances, the Broad Institute has formed the Methods Development Lab (MDL), with the mission of identifying key scientific frontiers and generating high-performance end-to-end approaches to enable the research community.

Computational Methods:

We are seeking an Associate Director of Computational Methods to oversee computational development and application within the MDL. The MDL is a vibrant ecosystem of researchers working together to drive development, applications, and productionization of novel methods. We are looking for an established computational scientist to coordinate development across the team to meet prioritized goals. Our current core research focus is to catalyze transformational shifts in:

Transcriptomics through molecular and computational development of long-read RNA sequencing methods and

Scaling single-cell RNA-seq such that 1 million cell experiments are routine and 1 billion cell flagship projects are possible.

In addition to scale, we have a strong research emphasis on creating advanced library construction techniques that increase capture efficiency and enable multimodal measurements. Much of this work is enabled by bringing industry partners together, achieving new capabilities through shared ambitious goals. The Associate Director will play a leading role in industry collaborations, executing on project plans, communicating progress, and fostering strong and productive partnerships. In addition to methods development, The Associate Director will lead application of these novel methods at the Broad Institute and work closely with Broad Clinical Lab's production teams to translate novel methods into production scale processes to make them available to the community.
