RESEARCH SPECIALIST, -Koehler Lab, to impact medicine by expanding the repertoire of druggable targets and developing new technological solutions to solve bottlenecks in the drug discovery process. The conducts cutting-edge research at the new frontiers of biological engineering and chemical biology. It includes biologists, chemists, engineers, and physician scientists who ensure a fluidity of research that promotes cross-disciplinary discovery. Responsibilities include assisting with writing and/or editing manuscripts, abstracts, grant and foundation applications, correspondence, special reports, and reference letters; assisting lab members with research fellowship applications, presentations, and manuscripts; coordinating publications, including appropriate acknowledgments per funding requirements; identifying and helping prepare grant applications; liaising with funding agencies, providing progress reports, financial plans, and final reports; advising investigator of the lab's short- and long-term needs and identifying possible solutions/alternatives; liaising with safety and regulatory offices; assisting with job searches for technical and postdoctoral staff positions; preparing animal experimentation and biosafety protocols, ensuring the laboratory's work is covered by all regulations; handling material transfer requests; working with central MIT administrative offices on patents and intellectual property, KI executive director's office on communications and development issues, and KI headquarters on grant applications and follow-up; and maintaining and updating laboratory website.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor's degree in a related field; two years' experience in laboratory research; experience with research grant writing and reporting processes; ability to understand the laboratory's work and express it verbally and in writing; knowledge of grant funding resources and experience coordinating applications; excellent organizational, communication, writing, editing, and proofreading skills; and experience with database management programs. PREFERRED: Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, engineering, or related field. Job #23784
