The Head of Software Development within the Sports Medicine Arthroscopic Enabling Technologies organization is a technical leadership role and will be responsible for the architecture, software design, development, V&V, release, and maintenance of all our AET software including Application, Platform, Cloud, and Mobile based software (excluding embedded software and FPGA). The leader in this role will work closely with R&D counterparts, Program Management, Global Marketing, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, and Clinical Affairs organizations in developing a multitude of products while ensuring compliance to relevant standards for different markets. This position requires strong technical capability and experience in project scoping and planning with strong team building skills and multitasking abilities.

What will you be doing?

Technical Leadership: Provides direction, mentoring, and leadership to team-members of the Software development organization sand has accountability for the global development, initial release, and ongoing maintenance (feature backlog and bug fixes) of all cloud-based, mobile, and application software for Sports Medicine Arthroscopic Enabling Technologies. Responsible for development strategy, development cost, product cost, project risks, and timelines for each project. 40%

Project Management: In partnership with New Product Development Program Management, ensure that Software development projects are scoped appropriately and delivered with high quality, on time, and on budget. Skilled at developing and encouraging working relationship with development partners around the world. 20%

Process: Ensures the software development processes and procedures are effective, compliant, and efficient 20%

Organizational Leadership: As a member of the Sports Medicine AET R&D Leadership team, drives the goals and objectives of the AET R&D organization. Key stakeholders include: Director of Electrical Engineering and Embedded Software, Director of Electromechanical Engineering, Sr. Director of Systems Engineering and Advanced Technology Development, and Head of Sports Medicine Program Management. 20%

Travel: Domestic International - up to 10%

Education: BS in computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering; MS Preferred

What will you need to be successful?

10+ years of supervising software development/engineering teams for software and/or electromechanical systems with a strong preference for video based medical device systems

Experience with software development in a cross-functional/matrix working environment

Consistent record of developing and launching software based medical device products from concept through launch

Experience with management of release train plans for software products including appropriate triaging of feature backlogs and defects

Experience with developing products utilizing both waterfall and Agile methodologies

Experience interacting with surgeon customers is helpful

Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills

Flexibility and adaptability managing multiple priorities

Effective oral and written communication skills across levels

Ability to work cross-functionally to align on priorities, coordinate resources, and execute work

Deep knowledge of implications of software development process (e.g. version/dependency management, continuous integration, automated testing).

Experience/expertise at multiple levels of the software stack (especially Linux/C++)

Knowledge of debugging hardware/software challenges using standard tools and equipment
