Senior Maintenance Carpenter

Overview

Under general supervision, perform skilled work in construction, alteration, repair, and installation of fixtures, buildings, and structures throughout the Facilities. Maintain Waters structures and furniture in attractive and safe condition.

Responsibilities
    Plan and complete construction of cabinets, shelves, walls, ceilings, and partitions from initial layout to assembly using oral instructions, plans, specifications, blueprints, and work orders.
  • Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates.
  • Fabricate, repair, and replace doors, windows, flooring, ceiling materials, glass, building hardware, screens, plastic laminate, etc. Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean and remove scraps and lumber as needed.
  • Detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment by following established inspection procedures.
  • Receive, perform and complete preventive maintenance, and corrective work orders utilizing the Maximo CMMS system
  • Repair, replace, maintain, and install wall boards, sheet rock, weather stripping, base boards, insulation, waterproofing materials, and suspended ceilings.
  • Perform inspections and determine carpentry needs, damage to, and advise management staff of carpentry standards.
  • Layout walls door openings, window openings, headers and joints using modern construction techniques.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by completion of an approved apprenticeship program in the carpentry trade and six years increasingly responsible journey-level carpentry experience including one year in a lead capacity
  • MA Construction Supervisor License or other state construction license equivalent.

Experience:

  • Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools used in carpentry
  • Ability to read and work from plans, blueprints, sketches, specifications, and diagrams.
  • Ability to plan and lay out carpentry work and can measure and perform mathematical computations
  • Ability to work independently Power saw, planer, drill press, sander, band saw, table saw, radial arm saw, nail gun, air compressor, other power equipment, measuring devices, and light truck or van, effectively and safely.
  • Working knowledge of the International Building Code (I.B.C.)
  • Building codes related to the carpentry trade.
  • Lead and perform skilled carpentry work in the maintenance, repair, construction, alteration, forming, framing, and finishing of buildings, furniture, and facilities.
  • Meet schedules and timelines, coordinate and schedule work with other trades, and contractors as.
  • Maintain various records related to work performed.
  • Provide estimates on time and materials requirements.
  • General computer skills

  • Follow safety procedures and practices common to carpentry work on site and in-shop, Observe health and safety regulations and procedures.

  • Can perform frequent walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching, heavy lifting and carrying.

  • Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions; outside and inside; on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, ladders, and scaffolding; and around machinery with moving parts.

  • Can work at times in hot and cold temperatures, excessive noises, fumes, and around chemicals.
