Job Description

The is looking for an exceptional candidate for the Process Development Research Associate position in the Cancer Program, to join the Cancer Dependency Group ().

The mission of the Broad Institute is to transform medicine by dramatically accelerating the understanding and treatment of disease. The Broad creates a vibrant research environment with close links to top academic institutions including Harvard, MIT and the Harvard hospitals. One of the key overarching goals of the Broad Institute Cancer Program is to systematically identify cancer-specific dependencies, to facilitate the development of new therapeutic approaches to adult and pediatric cancers.

Using genome-scale CRISPR technologies, DepMap is systematically creating a catalog of essential genes across the diversity of human tumors. We are beginning to define the landscape of cancer vulnerabilities by integrating CRISPR screens with the molecular features of the cell lines and using novel data science approaches. It is our expectation that these efforts will have major biological and therapeutic benefits if fully vetted and validated. To continue progress toward our goals, we want to hire a Research Associate to accelerate our experimental works. This position affords the exciting opportunity to join the DepMap team to perform molecular and cell biology experiments (https://depmap.org/portal/home/#/).

To that end, the individual will play a role in supporting large-scale experiments including expansion of cell cultures for banking and respective pilot and larger experiments, quality control assessment of the cell lines as well as work closely with the team to investigate new methods and technologies. The candidate should have a high attention to detail and be extremely organized as this position includes expectations for scientific judgment and experiment development. This role is an integral part of the DepMap team and offers the opportunity to interact with many groups at the Broad Institute.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to high throughput data production efforts by generating large scale cell-based assay data in a fast-paced, production-oriented setting.

  • Perform cell culture on up to 20 cell lines in parallel, with accurate monitoring for contamination and cell line fidelity as well as performing standard molecular biology procedures.

  • Support in maintaining high quality data production from larger scientific experiments.

  • Plan and implement experiments to address specific questions defined by group projects and in consultation with your supervisor.

  • Prepare and maintain stocks of necessary reagents, solutions and supplies.

  • Document and track different experimental data for the DepMap project.

  • Generate oral and written presentations for performed experiments and share results.

  • Work independently on routine work and receive instruction on new assignments.

  • Other tasks as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Molecular Biology or related fields required.

  • At least two years of experience in a biological research laboratory.

  • Good experience with tissue culture is a requirement.

  • Experience working in a high throughput production setting is strongly preferred.

  • Experience with molecular biology techniques is preferred.

  • Must have excellent written, documentation, and oral communication skills.

  • Must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills, including the ability to handle a variety of tasks in a fast-paced environment with excellent time-management skills.

  • Ability to exercise judgment within defined experimental techniques.

  • A quantitative mindset to investigate problems.
