POSITION SUMMARY/PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Manufacturing Process Engineer independently applies engineering theories and principles, managing moderately complex or contributing to complex projects in the design of process and support of products and tools in a manufacturing environment. Manufacturing Process Engineers have a "Process Focus".

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Acts as Process Owner / Process Champion for assigned processes.
  • Implements and maintains robust process controls in alignment with industry best practices
  • Develops maintenance procedures for equipment and ensures preventive maintenance is executed per defined schedules.
  • Creates CapEx justifications for new capital equipment and process equipment upgrades. Develops and executes IQ protocols for new equipment.
  • Creates detailed design specifications for the tooling used in assigned processes.
  • "Trains Operators and technicians on the effective execution of manufacturing and maintenance requirements including special training requirements.
  • A significant requirement of this role will be to monitor process performance and enhance through continuous improvement initiatives. Understanding the latest manufacturing techniques, the employee will be expected to implement continuous improvement programs and strive for excellence with the use of tools such as SPC and DOE
  • Implements OEE metrics where feasible and strives to improve OEE results
  • Defining requirements, planning, scheduling, monitoring milestones and costs, and working to remove barriers to project success.
  • Performs Measurement Systems Analysis in support of Lean Six Sigma DMAIC requirements.
  • Troubleshooting complex manufacturing process performance problems. Providing technical guidance to less experienced team members
  • Conducting independent research into complex engineering problems, to develop new operating policies, capabilities, and processes.
  • Has authority and autonomy to deliver on accountabilities. Takes ownership for processes under their control.
  • Creates Process Instructions and Engineering Instructions
  • Communicates when ECO's can be implemented and Implements Engineering changes as directed by customer facing Manufacturing Engineers.
  • Develops validation requirements for special processes, and assists with execution of qualification protocols.
  • Determines traceability requirements with respect to process parameters
  • Conducts time studies.
  • Monitors process quality metrics such as DPMO and investigates yield issues.
  • Conducts capacity studies and works to improve process capacity and throughput rates
  • Determines requirements for process consumables and works with .operations and procurement teams to insure availability of consumables.
  • Works with quality on supplier issues impacting process results and metrics.
  • Develops models for the prediction of NRE costs for quote development by Mfg. Engineers.
  • Develops DFM specifications
  • Provide guidance to Manufacturing Engineers on how their customers' products can achieve "best in class" results within owned process(es).

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A background in the execution of "best practice" process control is required.
  • Understanding of operating methodologies in an electronics assembly environment.
  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles.
  • Experience with product labeling.
  • Experience in the field of complex Assembly with a practical understanding of Quality Standards and methodologies such as 5S, TQM and Lean Manufacturing would be an asset.
  • Experience with DFM and FMEA.
