ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB is focused on leveraging data and technology in our pursuit of providing high quality solutions to solve our clients' challenges. As part of our ongoing growth, we are seeking a talented Business Systems Analyst to join our team.

The Business Systems Analyst will be responsible for gathering and documenting business and functional requirements for IT products and for understanding and improving business processes that integrate with IT. The ideal candidate will excel at working collaboratively and building partnerships across business teams to define and detail business needs in alignment with software capabilities and will help our teams build and adopt transformative, sustainable business solutions and processes.

The role is based in our Watertown office with a hybrid set up. It will require occasional travel to offices throughout VHB's footprint.

Responsibilities

Develop Technical Requirements & Understand User Needs

    Discover and assess business needs and translate them into technical requirements using a collaborative approach with an eye to effective systems design, scalability, and innovation.
  • Work with IT project leaders and resources to ensure work is planned using Agile methodologies and tools and is aligned with business timelines and budgets.
  • Represent business stakeholder needs to IT development teams and vendors.
  • Collaborate with IT Teams, project leaders, and business stakeholders to ensure effective design, documentation, implementation, testing, and deployment of technical tools and processes.
  • Uses change management tools and techniques across teams and stakeholders to build awareness and ensure successful adoption of IT solutions and business processes.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand their requirements and identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Develop detailed requirements and use cases for software development projects.
  • Develop and maintain documentation such as user manuals, training materials, and technical specifications.

Collaborate on Defining, Documenting, & Improving Technical Processes

  • Work across IT teams to develop and establish standard practices for requirements gathering and business analysis.
  • Collaborate with business users to document business processes and build standards and re-usable frameworks across teams and systems.
  • Builds process maps of business processes and technical workflow charts and diagrams using Visio, Mural, or Lucidchart.
  • Solicit product and enhancement requirements from end users and synthesize requests into workable solutions.
  • Experiment with new business analysis technologies and methodologies.
  • Consistently learn and share, inside and outside the company, about business systems analysis, project teamwork, and change management.

Skills and Attributes

  • Excellent synthesis skills. Able to absorb complex information, then filter and combine to build clear understanding and be able to re-communicate information.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to use Excel to review and analyze business data. Experience with Microsoft Power BI, SQL or other table-based analysis and visualization tools desirable.
  • Strong technical writing, editing, and formatting skills with experience building and collaborating on documentation in Word and MS Office Suite.
  • Strong understanding and working experience with waterfall and Agile project management methodologies and associated tools like Microsoft Project or Planner, DevOps, and Jira.
  • Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information.

Qualifications

  • 5-7 years corporate business systems analysis experience
  • Experience and familiarity with Finance, HR, and other enterprise SaaS (Software as a Service) software.
  • Experience developing requirements for custom applications.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CBAP (Certified Business Analysis Professional), PMI-PBA or equivalent certification or coursework
  • Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry experience desired
