The Sleep Lab Tech is responsible for the following:
  • Procedure Prep: Prepares patients and equipment for procedures.
  • Obtains medical history from patients/families to identify and meet patient-specific needs. (e.g., physical/mental limitations, current physiological status regarding the testing procedure).
  • Reviews procedure request provided by ordering physician and complies with all standard lab protocols.
  • Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) Prep: Educates patients and families on PAP need and function and properly fit and apply PAP masks in pediatric population night of titration.
  • Procedures: Performs polysomnograms according to hospital and laboratory standards and protocols; routine and specialized PSG, PAP, O2, Trach, and other specialized procedures to meet the procedure request/goals of the study. Performs portable inpatient sleep studies working with patient care teams.
  • Training: Provides training to students, new hires, and less senior technical staff and provides feedback on trainee progress to management.
  • Equipment: Perform routine and complex equipment care and maintenance, troubleshoots technical problems with equipment, and coordinates repairs as needed with appropriate personnel.
  • Keeps equipment clean and in proper working order.
  • Department Operations: Attend monthly technical staff meetings providing professional input for the development of procedures and protocols for the Center.
  • Continuing Education: Participate in professional meetings on a local, regional, and national basis.

The Sleep Lab Tech must have the following:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience with confirmed proficiency with all equipment, duties, and competencies required of a Pediatric Sleep Lab Technologist I.
  • Proficiency at all requirements met within 3 months of hire.
  • High School diploma or GED
